Role Overview

In a Nutshell…

We have an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to join our team within Vistry Services, at our facility in Coalville, Leicestershire. As our Buyer, you will provide a full range of cost control and financial reporting duties on all aspects of materials for construction work. Alongside the Senior Buyer, you will be accountable and responsible for the performance of the sites in your control.

  • Strong mathematical and IT skills.
  • HNC/ONC in Construction or similar.
  • Experience of working in a similar position within the housebuilding industry.
  • Demonstratable experience of delivering savings within a housebuilding or construction environment.
  • Good understanding of procurement processes within the construction industry.
  • Good knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Strong negotiating and networking skills
  • Good knowledge of UK Housebuilding supply markets.
  • Ability to analyse and assess information in different formats to make informed decisions.
  • Good general commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude with a calm and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Comfortable communicating with both internal and external stakeholders of various levels.
  • Due to the nature of the role, candidates will be required to travel to Vistry manufacturing facilities on a regular basis.

 

Desirable…

  • Working towards being a Chartered member of CIPS.
  • Experience of working in a buyer position within the housebuilding industry.
  • Thorough understanding of legislation relating to procurement contracts and policies.

More about the Buyer role…

  • Managing categories including metal plates, lifting slings, hangers, fixings, consumables and fire socks.
  • Raising purchase orders for goods not for resale, including production consumables, engineering requests etc.
  • Supporting Engineering and design team in the effective implementation of new parts, coordinating the appropriate run out and ramp up of stock to ensure minimum financial impact due to part obsolescence.
  • Managing New Product Requisition process from start to finish.
  • Supporting the supply chain strategy by identifying any areas of risk and opportunity within the buyers category portfolio.
  • Building relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance and implementing any changes to drive improvement.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, carrying out periodic tenders and negotiate contracts with suppliers for best value.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support the business needs.
  • Balance demand and supply, creating a delivery plan which satisfies the combined requirements of production, keeping inventory within approved limits.
  • Producing reports through D365 to support effective management of the buyers categories.
  • Managing Product data on D365.
