Role Overview

In a Nutshell…

We have a new opportunity for a Head of Maintenance to join our team within Vistry Works East Midlands, at our factory in Coalville. As our Head of Maintenance, you will oversee a team of six maintenance technicians working across two shifts and be responsible for ensuring maximum uptime and operational efficiency across our production lines and equipment.

 

The role involves managing preventative and reactive maintenance across a range of equipment including semi-automated wall panel lines, floor cassette benches, roof truss presses, and timber saws. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical ability, excellent people management skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Proven experience in a maintenance leadership role within a manufacturing environment (ideally timber frame or similar).
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical background with hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with semi-automated manufacturing equipment, hydraulic presses, saws, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Effective communicator with experience managing and motivating teams across shifts.
  • Experience implementing and managing planned maintenance systems
  • Excellent understanding of health & safety and risk assessment in a production environment.

Desirable…

  • Recognised qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certification or similar health and safety training.
  • Experience in timber manufacturing, construction products, or similar industries.

More about the Head of Maintenance role…

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of 6 maintenance technicians across two shifts (6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm).
  • Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained to a high standard to minimise downtime and meet production targets.
  • Develop and manage the preventative maintenance schedule for all machinery and factory infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and respond effectively to reactive maintenance issues as they arise, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Work closely with Production and H&S teams to ensure machinery and maintenance processes are safe, compliant, and efficient.
  • Monitor performance of equipment and implement root cause analysis for breakdowns and recurring issues.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and liaise with suppliers and contractors where external support is required.
  • Champion continuous improvement in maintenance systems, procedures, and team performance.
  • Support and contribute to capital projects, machinery upgrades, and new equipment commissioning.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are documented and comply with regulatory and company standards.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members, promoting a culture of ownership and accountability.
